Explore the Cosmetic Dentistry Options at Our Practice

A beautiful and healthy-looking smile radiates confidence; however, chipped, misaligned, or discolored teeth can make a smile appear less than dazzling. Luckily, there are many cosmetic dentistry options available to fix imperfections. Gary Arrindell, D.D.S. is experienced in the latest cosmetic treatments and options, from teeth whitening and porcelain veneers to Invisalign® orthodontics and complete smile makeovers. Gary Arrindell, D.D.S. is a skilled cosmetic dentist who can help anyone attain the smile they envision through cosmetic dentistry.

Porcelain Crowns

Dr. Arrindell uses crowns made from natural-looking porcelain to restore strength and beauty to teeth that have been weakened by decay or injury. A dental crown covers the entire tooth like a cap and is an excellent option for covering cracked, worn down, or deeply stained teeth. Porcelain crowns look remarkably like natural teeth because they mimic the sheen of tooth enamel and can be color matched to blend in with your smile.

Two office visits are typically required for the placement of porcelain crowns. During the first visit, the tooth is prepared by removing decay and excess tooth structure to make room for the crown. Then, Dr. Arrindell will make an impression of the prepared tooth so that the crown can be custom made by a dental laboratory. The patient will wear a temporary crown for a week or two between visits. Once the crown is ready, the patient will return for a second visit to have the crown bonded securely to the tooth. With proper care, porcelain crowns are extremely long lasting.

Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that covers just the front surface of a tooth. Porcelain veneers are an excellent option for covering chips, discolorations, and slight misalignments in the front teeth. Like crowns, porcelain veneers are extremely natural looking and blend in well with surrounding teeth.

Porcelain veneers can be placed within two visits to our practice. The tooth will be prepared during the first appointment, at which time a small amount of the front surface of the tooth will be removed in order to make room for the thickness of the veneer. Dr. Arrindell will then make an impression of the tooth and send it to a dental laboratory so that the veneer can be crafted. The patient will wear a temporary veneer until the permanent veneer is ready. During a second visit, Dr. Arrindell will bond the veneer to the tooth.

Dental Bridges

For patients with missing teeth, Dr. Arrindell may suggest a dental bridge to fill in the gap. The bridge includes one or more artificial teeth that are attached to surrounding teeth that have been prepared with dental crowns. Bridges not only restore beauty to a smile, they also aid in chewing and speaking ability, and prevent teeth from shifting out of place.

The placement of a bridge takes several steps and can typically be completed in two office visits. During the first visit, the teeth surrounding the gap are prepared for crowns and an impression of the area is made. This impression is sent to a dental laboratory so that the bridge – including the crowns and artificial tooth - can be fabricated. The patient may wear temporary crowns on the teeth until the bridge is ready. During a second appointment, the bridge is bonded in place.

Tooth-colored Fillings

Metal fillings have long been used to repair teeth that have been damaged due to decay or injury; however, they can darken over time, leading to a less than dazzling appearance. Dr. Arrindell uses natural-looking tooth-colored fillings to fix cavities or to replace old metal fillings. In addition to the obvious aesthetic advantage, tooth-colored fillings typically require less of the natural tooth structure to be removed than do metal fillings. They also eliminate the risk of an allergic reaction which can occur with metal.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are used to repair damaged teeth that don’t need full crowns but require more support than fillings can provide. Inlays and onlays are similar to fillings but they are crafted in a dental laboratory to precisely fit the prepared tooth. Inlays are placed within the cusps (tips) of the top surface of a tooth, while onlays cover the entire chewing surface of a tooth.

Two visits are needed to place an inlay or onlay. During the first visit, the tooth is prepared by removing decay and damaged tooth material. An impression of the tooth is made and sent to the dental laboratory for the fabrication of the inlay or onlay. During a second visit, the inlay or onlay is bonded into place.

REMBRANDT® Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a quick and relatively simple smile enhancement option. At our practice, we feature in-office and at-home REMBRANDT® teeth whitening options which safely and effectively whiten teeth for dramatic results.

In-office Teeth Whitening

The in-office REMBRANDT® teeth whitening system quickly lightens teeth up to ten shades. The teeth are first coated with the REMBRANDT® whitening gel. Then, a special blue-spectrum light is applied to the area to activate the whitening power of the gel. The gel is then removed to reveal a dramatically whiter smile.

At-home Teeth Whitening

We also offer the convenient at-home REMBRANDT® teeth whitening system. This system involves the use of a custom-fit tray that is worn over the teeth to hold the whitening gel in place. The patient wears the tray at night or for several hours during the day. Optimal results are usually achieved in a few weeks.

Invisalign® Orthodontics

Dr. Arrindell is proud to offer his patients Invisalign® as an alternative to traditional orthodontics. Instead of using metal wires and brackets to align the teeth, the Invisalign® system uses a series of clear plastic aligners. In addition to being nearly invisible, these aligners can be removed, making dental care much easier than with metal braces.

Each patient receives a series of custom-made aligners that are designed to gradually move the teeth into alignment. Each aligner is worn for two weeks and then discarded and replaced by the next in the series. Teeth can typically be aligned within six months to a year. During treatment, patients will visit Dr. Arrindell regularly so that he can monitor their progress.

Gum Lifting

Gum tissue that is asymmetrical or that covers too much of the tooth can result in an unbalanced or overly gummy smile. In such cases, a gum lifting procedure may be all that is needed. To lift the gums, Dr. Arrindell will first apply an anesthetic to the area, and then surgically contour the tissue to create a balanced smile.

Dental Implant Repair

Although a dental implant can last a lifetime, the artificial tooth (restoration) that is attached can become discolored or worn over time. For patients who already have implant posts, the artificial teeth can be replaced with a new restoration at our practice. Dr. Arrindell can remove your old artificial tooth and replace it with a customized restoration that matches surrounding teeth for a completely natural appearance.

Complete Smile Makeover

For his patients who require multiple procedures to produce the results they desire, Gary Arrindell, D.D.S. can plan a complete smile makeover. Dr. Arrindell can examine your teeth and help you determine which treatments will achieve your goals. He may suggest teeth whitening or porcelain veneers to brighten your smile, dental bridges to replace missing teeth, or even Invisalign® to align teeth and reduce gaps. No matter what your cosmetic goals are, Dr. Arrindell can make them happen through a smile makeover.
